Patrick Surtain/ Mario Goodrich...

I would love to have these two guys in our defensive back field. This would would have us set for a couple years. Ultimately I think Goodrich is why we backed off Cook. Let’s finish strong Coach O with Surtain, Goodrich, Marshall, Joiner, and Watkins/Joseph.

I'm a little concerned about the philosophy - both Joseph and Goodrich are guys that we're not sure of right now - if I had to hazard a guess, I'd say Joseph is staying at CB, if we backed off Cook - and Goodrich is flexible enough, may get looks at CB, S or WR to see where his best fit is.
Or, we could have moved to Goodrich for that spot when we figured out Cook was headed to Austin, as just the best player available (NFL-draft type thinking). I mean, we certainly got enough beef yesterday. If it's Surtain, Joseph and Goodrich, along with Marshall, Joiner and a (ANY LIVING, BREATHING) QB - I can't imagine folks being too upset at those spots.

Cook sending his LOI to Austin is why we backed off Cook. He was our #1 choice and now we have moved on to Goodrich. If we are able to sign him, that's a tremendous job by our staff of gaining ground with him in a short amount of time.

I meant #1 as far as tier 1, not literally the top guy on our board. If we were planning on signing 4 defensive backs, he's one of the first 4 guys we'd take.

LSU may have backed off of Cook because they thought he was going to UT so they put more effort towards Goodrich who they feel much better about in the class and is also a stud.
I don't think LSU passed. I think it was more mutually realizing it was best to look elsewhere with him UT bound.

Already explained this but I meant we are taking about 3 CBs and he was in our "group 1" of guys we wanted.

Cook was a definite take in this class if he wanted on board.
Surtain and Joseph are the two they really want but Bama will play a role with these 2 and their need for DB's.

I'm holding out hope for Foster. Those Montgomery kids are legendary in our not being able to get a good read. I think we're okay with him, but I don't know if he knows right now.

This is completely incorrect. Raymond and Co. saw Goodrich a few weeks back, offered and we shot up to being his favorite, once that happened they backed off Cook. They simply liked what he brought to the table more than Cook.
They were pressing cook, hence why he held off committing a while back, once we backed off and put the press on for Goodrich, it was an easy decision for Cook.
