60 Minutes did a story in 2001 about the “mama’s boys” in Italy who live with mama into their 30s, even 50s, moving out only if they get married. Many chose not to.

We looked at them like freaks, but our society has changed to where we are close to that.

I like my parents, and I was broke and in debt when I graduated, but I thought of their house as a last refuge before a homeless shelter. I’d have moved into a shite apartment, had a roommate, slept on a couch, etc. before asking to come home. Times have obviously changed.

Many kids are also content to have mom drive them around forever. I was waiting outside the DMV when it opened on my birthday to get a license.
