Four Leaf, I’ll differ with you on too much gun with the 7 mag and the Ultra. Right now, I’ve got a 300 WBY pointed down a 600 yard lane. It’s for the trajectory, not killing power.

I’ve had extensive experience with both the .308 and .270. Since you already have long range rifles, you want the .308. It comes in a short action, allowing you to have a more compact, handy rifle for the short range hunting you described. Also, you can get a heavier bullet in the .308. I believe the .308 Win is the best all around Southern deer hunting caliber there is.

Agree with most of the peeps above.

308 would be my choice. Tons of factory ammo with unlimited bullet choices.

If you want to reload there are endless combinations available online.

270 is great, I have one, but would choose a 308 without hesitation if given the option.
