Budget? Where are you working in Mobile? And what to do you mean close to the action? You could get a loft or something downtown, rent a house in midtown, Fairhope, etc. West Mobile is going to be more geared toward families and traffic.

Yeah, if you're working downtown, the commute from eastern shore may be rough dealing with the bridge. I'd love to retire to Fairhope, or move down there when I have a few years of working left. I'm definitely in Bham for the long haul, but once my kids are all grown it would be a nice change of pace.

Fairhope still has that small town feel. But close enough to beaches and city life if you want that.

I’ll be working downtown and I’m looking to spend less than $1500/mo. Found a nice house near downtown Fairhope, but I’m not sure if the commute is worth it over the bridge. I’ve found some downtown Mobile Apartments like the Marine St Lofts and The Towers at Ryan Park which seem alright.

I was about to pull the trigger on Fairhope but thought I should give Mobile a shot before making my decision.
