Yeah I don't see how this is at all controversial. Two key events turned the tide in Iraq and Syria. One was the Fatwa by Sistani that created the PMF's as they currently exist, although there is some argument on how long they've existed, in 2014. The second was Russian support for Assad in 2015. Neither had much if any involvement from the US. That Iranian proxy groups, Iraqi PMF's, Iraqi and Syrian Kurds and the SAA don't get credit for ISIS's demise despite the fact that they've done the vast majority of the fighting is a weird thing that I don't quite understand.
