Start with telling me what, if anything, is wrong with that assessment Shorty? Because if you can't find any, then you need to stop running around here acting like this is no different than the logic you would apply to the market for 10 dollar widgets.

Markets require certain foundational principles to function properly, otherwise they risk market failure. As already mentioned following the point you got triggered and ran away from the response, very few markets exhibit all of those traits in the real world, but for a market to be high functioning it requires most of that foundation to operate relatively close to those principles. Otherwise you run into trouble. Trouble like we see in the ISP market.

The ISP market does not exhibit almost any of those underlying traits satisfactorily, which is why we have such a defacto natural monopoly situation in most of the country. Brought on by multiple causal factors.

You continue to scream about competition, that its there, but the competition you speak of is often not there, or where it is is not actually the sort of substitute that does what you infer when you go on screaming about it. You demanded someone explain to you why the ISP space is a monopoly industry. While I won't make that direct argument, I think you have quite a lot of explaining to do for why we shouldn't consider the space highly and often naturally and artificially near non-competitive and exhibiting traits of natural monopoly to oligopoly. That's vital function and use of shared resources to society categorically differentiates it from most other markets.

How true. I was with one of the Grand Alliance partners involved in development of the ATSC 8VSB terrestrial broadcast standard. You should have seen how beautiful the original standard submitted to the FCC was. Nearly 35 Mbps of HD at 1080i. Yes, interlaced 1080i that looked so good you thought you were looking into another world.

Then Bill Gates hired lobbyists to get it changed to a progressive format and delayed implementation of HD for seven years.
