Take one of the most beloved and will known IPs in the world, buy it, and then start a trilogy with no planning at all and hand the second movie to some unproven and unpolished director and also give him full autonomy to write it with no oversight or theme or care for the first movie or third movie

Can someone explain that decision to me?

sjw concerns aside, this has all the halmarks of owning a property that is too big to manage. too many people involved..too many hands in the kitchen..this isn't the first time we've seen a trainwreck emerge because of too many focus groups, studio heads, bean-counters, 'creatives' and who knows what else all trying to put something together that ends up being a confusing pile of steaming crap.

TLJ was just awful. those of you who are defending it...would you put the original SW trilogy (any of the 3) up against anything that has been released since..for you kids??

i don't want my kids to grow up watching anything but those original movies which were all magical, filled with HOPE and while EP5 ended on a cliffhanger..they were all ultimately a positive and uplifting set of movies.

all other sw movies released since have been nothing but dark, confusing and bare no resemblance to the original universe. there's nothing "magical" about any of those movies and your kids won't leave the theater pumping their fists and wanting to go out & pretend they are Ren or Laura frickING Dern.

the magic of the 80s is gone.

actually I think I will start with Rogue 1 before New Hope.

Rogue 1 becomes the ice cream in the Sundae as it lines up perfectly.

Forget the prequels and TLJ will get a skip as well. I might not even show them TFA unless IX is worth a shite, and then still would debate showing TLJ at all. May have to look to cut scenes out....30 min movie..."No, they blew up the bridge, Leia's dead!...(delete)......wait..How is she alive, in a coma on that bed?"

I’ll be honest, I think that’s a huge part of the problem.

A Trilogy is supposed to mesh well, but it feels like Rian Johnson got the job and said “you know what, just frick that other movie. frick it to hell. I’m just gonna make my own shite right here “. And as a stand alone, it still had its problems. But they were magnified when you were like “hey, wasn’t there just a movie that was made before this one? What about that movie? And what about all of this other shite that doesn’t go with any of the other movies?” If you can completely disregard any of the other movies in the saga you could possibly like this movie. It is still a very flawed and incoherent film but it had explosions and space battles and shite, some action. Some of the Kylo and Rey scenes were fabulously done, but they alone couldn’t save this film from the rest of itself.
