Almost exact thing happened to me. Bout a year long relationship, about 2-3 days before Christmas. She’d been “out of town” and came back but said she was sick. I went to surprise her with a gift. Knocked on door and I heard scrambling around. Opened door and Jody (her long time ex) was running out the back door and she had blanket wrapped around her running towards the door. She was crying and screaming. I told her to call him back in and finish,

I was done. I was upset for a few days but got over it as I was early 20s by then. If I would have been like 16-17 I wouldn’t have handled it as well. Kept gift (I think perfume but can’t remember) and like a dirt bag, gave it to next girlfriend on her bday, like 7-8 months later. Cheap, I know. No wonder I got cheated on.

ETA: It was weird he took off running. They had dated like 6-7 years. I met girl like a month after they broke up. If I’d dated an ex that long I wouldn’t take off running out back like that.
