I don’t plan on doing the elf thing. But a girl I work with (who has refused to do it too) had her daughter come home one day asking why Santa didn’t like he, and if she wouldn’t get gifts this year.. All her friends have the elf on a shelf thing. So the mom finally gave into it.
I don’t know how I would handle that. Luckily I have a few more years before mine even realize what Santa is.

My youngest son was the only one who ever showed interest in it and asked me a similar question once. I told him Santa decided we didn't need one because he was such a good boy. I just made it out like everyone who has an elf has questionable behavior.
