I was disappointed with Chavis, but our LB play improved a frickING ton under him. He's not half as bad as you LSU guys make him out to be but he's not half as good as TexAgs told me he would be. Good hire for Pig and Morris, not great.

He’s trash without elite talent.

So your lb corps went from Dark Crystal meets Batman V Superman to below average?

being objective, I think you should review his overall rankings of his defenses at a&m. I think you had better talent there than before but not by much and those rankings say it all. i'm not going to look 'em up now but I've seen them. when his defenses at LSU dropped off he blamed the offense and I've seen many aggie fans defend him blaming the offense. the fact is for the entire 3 yrs chavis was there y'all's interior DL was soft as butter and your DE's were pass rushers only (garret was great; don't get me wrong). and yes, you LB's were so bad for his first two years they had to show some improvement (and they did).

chavis' problems were exactly what most LSU fans said they were going to be; he builds his D undersized and fast and can be very effective against spread teams but usually get bowled over by power teams. I think he recruited some for y'all at first. he was better at LSU AT FIRST because he inherited a great DL and some and had great DB recruiters and coaches.

He's a good lb coach but he's also super biased to his little pet players and will frick up playing time for that. He started a kid that wouldn't start anywhere else in d1 over Deion Jones and Kendall Beckwith for yearS. Jones was a backup OLB and walks into the NFL as a stud ILB from day one.

He's a good DC when he has studs everywhere and can just be basic. If not, he's nothing great. See late Tennessee era and A&M. Plus he is always garbage in any prevent or 3rd and long situations regardless of what players he has.

He'll also recruit basically one lb from Tennessee (near his off season home who knows some coach he has connects with) per year and that's it. So others have to carry his weight in that area.
