Drag deer to a the closest tree with wheeler or by hand, Keep a rope and a heavy nut tied to it on 4 wheeler. throw rope & nut over tree limb, tie rope to deer and other end to the wheeler. Pull it up, untie rope on 4 wheeler end and tie off or hold it while I back under deer, let it down on rack and roll out. Never really thought more about it than that. Has worked my entire life.

Hunted with a guy who would tie the rear legs of the deer together to give himself something to grab and would ranger roll the thing up on his shoulder to drop it on the rack of his ATV. Little guy maybe 5'7" 150lbs. Would roll the deer up on his shoulder and plop it on the rack like it was nothing. I guess good technique beats muscles. Never tried it myself I've always used a cheap $60 harbor freight winch with a snatch block hung from a tree.

Ranger Roll with the guy from Forge in Fire

Winch on the front of the ATV with snatch block hung from tree like this.
