Not saying that at all. These companies are completely free to do their deals. But that doesn't mean consumers should be happy about them. Marvel fans aren't thinking about the many ways this deal will affect them. Instead of the latest Star Wars and Marvel Movies streaming on NetFlix after the DVD sales window, they'll now have to buy a separate service to see them. I don't know if FX's Legion has any streaming deals set up yet, but if it doesn't you better believe the back seasons of it and The Gifted will be behind Disney's paywall as well.

Agreed but if consumers aren't happy wouldn't they NOT purchase Disney's/ABC's service?

NetFlix's response to Disney pulling out was pretty much "OK then, frick You Too." They hired away ABC's top hit maker in Shonda Rhimes and bought a Scottish comic book company owned by the author that is credited with story lines for several of the Marvel movies.

Thought this happened months ago..? If so, it was a decent answer, but certainly not something long term. A huge benefit of Netlfix is backcatalog, which is what this deal kills.

I know I don't plan to. I'm just going to have to keep up with stuff on my DVR better since I won't have NetFlix as a fallback.

It did. These megadeals don't happen over night, they take months and sometimes years of flirting first. When Disney first opted out of their deal with NetFlix I thought it was a stupid decision and NetFlix could actually monetize their shows better than they could. I didn't see why a significant number of people would pay a monthly fee for the odd combination of Star Wars Movies and ABC reruns. But adding the Fox content to the mix does give them a critical mass and this surely was their plan when they opted out of the NetFlix deal.

Yet the potential app Disney is making, which they said was in the works even before this merger, would be amazing. They'd have the Marvel films, the Disney library, Touchstone, 20th Century Fox film, Fox Searchlight, Miramax, Fox and ABC networks, FS regional sports, NHL/MLB streaming, and probably a bunch of other stuff I'm forgetting.

This is potentially the best TV/movie back catalog app ever made.
