And why did yall change it to Death Valley? Clemson has the Death Valley...actually given by another teams coach...not just because our fans didn't like a "deaf valley" moniker. So, honestly asking..

Go Tigers!!!

Hahahaha!!! Seriously? Just asking a question...stay classy guy ;)

I can tell I have hit a nerve with that simple question due to the down votes. Yall KNOW...just like Auburn does....copy, copy, copy.

Yeah, well, it was because a fricking cemetery overlooked your stadium, so...

quote:

Death Valley[edit]
The nickname "Death Valley" for Memorial Stadium, derives both from Death Valley National Park in California as well as the location of the Clemson University cemetery on a hill that once overlooked the field—before the upper decks were constructed.

The late Lonnie McMillian, former football coach at Presbyterian College told sports writers in 1948 that he had "to take his team up to Clemson and play in Death Valley" where they rarely scored or gained a victory.[5]

Clemson Head Coach Frank Howard began using the nickname "Death Valley" for the stadium in the 1950s.

Clemson is named Tigers because Princeton had just won the NC. They used the old Auburn practice uniforms, which were navy and orange, but the navy had faded and purple was adopted. LSU and Auburn have older football programs and stadiums than Clemson.

I know our (Clemson) reasoning. Asking about LSU. I like yall's team, stadium, uniforms...just don't know as to why/when LSU fans started calling Tiger Stadium "Death Valley"....actually never heard that until about four years ago.

Better question is why are y'all using all of LSU songs in the band?

just because you speed the song up doesn't mean it's not the same.

Tim McGraw character from the Blindside told Michael Orr a story about why Lsu is called Death Valley. Not sure if it’s true or not.

Don't disagree with any of that. ..Clemson program started from Auburn coach...known that... (copy comes from Gene Chizic and everything Dabo said turned into a Chizic/Auburn "phrase"...)

Dude, I have followed college football since I can remember. Really started in '88/89. I KNOW LSU tried to call their place DEAF valley (because it was/is so loud)...never....NEVER heard Tiger Stadium refered to as anything other until about 4/5 yrs ago on College Gameday...Rece Davis said it. Gamecock fans THEN started crap saying LSU's was DV.....just to get under our (Clemson Tigers) skin.
