end goal is a shotgun she can use at home

Serious question because this has been thrown around a lot in this thread.

Do you think she will get off a 2nd shot after she fires a shotgun inside the house? I would think my wife would be scared shitless to fire a 2nd shot because she will be deaf from the first one.

The reality is most people have never fired any weapon inside a closed structure without hearing protection and all this discussion of an OK Corral type shootout is a very unlikely situation unless you have a drug or cash stash that someone is after.

Unless you have cornered an intruder a single blast is very likely to turn them around and one from a shotgun is going to be even more effective in that regard.

ETA shotguns aren't as loud relatively as people think:

depends on the woman. my wife goes out to the ranch and dove hunts with me plenty. she's used to the noise. she's fired it a few times and can handle the kick. she's still a relative noob at firearms in general.

handgunwise, she's fired a few, but she's probably not much on aim or target. now that she has one, she'll hopefully put in the time and get better.

adrenaline is a huge factor, but if you or your spouse knows how to go through the motions for chambering, safely aiming, and firing due to practice, the hope is y'all keep your cool. that's why going to the range is important periodically.

when it comes to a shotgun, i don't want her to ever have to fire a second shot. i don't want her to have to fire a single shot to begin with.

No worse than most hand guns.
