When comparing Clemson to Alabama, for example, yes. How is it fair for Clemson to have to risk everything, injuries, show more of their playbook, expend the energy to play this game while Alabama, who had a lesser season than Clemson, gets to sit at home?

Some would argue that losing to a playoff caliber team as opposed to Syracuse doesn't constitute a "lesser season"

Well Clemson is getting a pass for losing to POS Syracuse because the QB was hurt. Nobody is giving Bama a pass for having 4 injured LB's and a gimpy O-lineman.
