Please for the love of God get a case for your X.

First thing I am going to do.

quote:

You can take out your old iPhone 6 sim and put it in your X, but ATT will set it up in the store and just activate your new sim card. They will also transfer all of your data (contacts, photos, videos, etc). DO NOT WIPE YOUR iPhone 6 before they transfer everything unless you know you've backed up it up to iTunes or iCloud.

So, I have to go to an ATT store before I am able to use my new phone?

Thanks.

No, you can do a backup of your 6 to icloud, then set up your X based off of the backup. You can do this all from home. It will be ready to set up when you receive it. After you're done, just do a factory reset on the 6 and give it to your dad. He may have to take it to a store to set up, but most likely he can just call AT&T to have it set up. You'll need the phone's IMEI number, and maybe the number on the sim card. It's been a couple of years since I set one up on AT&T, but every time I was able to call from another phone and set it up.

Like Rob said, you can set up your X from an iCloud or iTunes back up of your 6.

I didn't know if you were going to have to go pick it up from ATT or not. It's faster to just have them do it cause it's a wire transfer and not based on the internet like iCloud.

However, the iCloud backup depends on how much data you have on your phone currently. Apple only gives you 5 GB of storage on iCloud to start. If you have more than that, which most people do, then you'll either have to buy more storage capacity from Apple, it's not expensive at $0.99/month for 50 GB, but it's just an extra hassle and extra money, be it a dollar, that you necessarily don't need. iTunes back up is on your computer and you can back up everything to there regardless of the amount as long as you have the space on your hard drive, but you'll have to have your X plugged into the computer to restore it.
