Does that mean that some of the shoots just die off after a while or do you mean that it will start to spread too much?

Some stalks get damaged or diseased and die. You end up with some brown, dried out pieces in your nice green wall. If you cut them out, it looks cleaner.

Some just die. They deteriorate and fall over and it just looks messy.
We don’t have any problem with it expanding. We cut the grass around it maybe twice a month. Sometimes you’ll have a little shoot come up, but nothing bad.
Also, on those ones that die, they break off sometimes right at the ground and what’s still in the ground is sometimes in the shape of a cup. It holds water and is a little mosquito breeding ground. Might want to watch for that.
