El Jefe is right, the side of the road by the bridges can be on fire if the tide is moving. One thing I do want to bring up about that is the kids and dog. For some reason, people feel the need to drive way to fast on Hwy. 1. You are fishing on side of a highway with a speed limit of 55, so you really have to watch the boys crossing the highway. I'd take a look at Elmer's Island road between Hwy. 1 and the dog leg right turn to the beach. Lot's of places to fish, no traffic( or moving very slowly), and also places to launch the yak. At night, the Bridgeside pier can be a lot of fun, but buy some live shrimp in the afternoon and keep them aerated, you'll catch a lot more free lining and the boys can watch the fish hit the shrimp. It's all about getting those boys on some fish, at that age, size and type won't matter. Good Luck.
