See, the problem with opioids is that they're addictive, even at normally prescribed quantities. People with workplace or auto collision injuries are prescribed opioids and then become addicted. When cut off from the drugs, they go into withdrawals. Kratom can help ease the withdrawal symptoms and help people quit opioids. It also works as a pain reliever as a substitute for opioids.

Since people can grow and make their own Kratom, of course big pharma (which sells opioids) wants it shut down.
