Why? This one never made sense to me either.

Sure, you score earlier, but what's the difference? You have more time left but also need a TD, which isn't really different than less time left and needing a field goal.

If you're driving, why would you not try to finish off the drive with a score ?

I don't like when teams down 10 points kick a FG from inside the 15. This is probably the closest they're going to get to the end zone. Go for the TD now and worry about the FG after.
