Oh for frick's sake
I know stats matter and while he makes good plays he hardly ever makes great plays.
I will say that when he does make good throws the receivers have screwed up.

DE is not a great quarterback. He is a good game manager. He misses too many passes he should complete. He had a bad game against Bama.
But he had stats yesterday that I'd take every game. And he hit Chark perfectly on 2 deep balls that went for TDs, and he hit some nice intermediate throws. Some times the TV guy said "Poor throw, " other times "Good throw."
He is a grade B quarterback. But he does not throw a lot of stupid interceptions like our last 2 starting quarterbacks did. He has heart, and he's a tough kid. He tries his best, and is having some success despite poor pass protection. And he doesn't deserve the hate he gets on TD.
Ask Larry Fedora if he'd rather have DE over Brandon Harris. Bet he says DE please.

All you need to see on Etling is yesterday, on a short route into the flats to a rb, he missed him by 5 yds.
That sums up his abilities right there....and you will NEVER compete for titles with that level of play.

QBR May look good but DE has below average arm strength and below average accuracy. His above average decision-making balances that into an overall mediocre QB.
And I like DE, but we have all seen his limits.

If you look at those other ESPN stats, like total expected points added (EPA), he drops to 59th, Pass EPA 48th.
Looking at the NCAA numbers in pass efficiency, he is 29th.
