i re-watched this a few weeks ago and holy shite is this movie awesome. it's one of the most creative visual movies i've ever seen, if not #1

GdT was killing it 2002-2008

Exactly. And the story is just perfect. I think it is vastly underrated in these discussions. I'm going to lean Avengers/Superman 78 just because they are more directly "superhero-like," but Hellboy 2 is superior to nearly every film in the genre. I think it's just as well made as TDK and Logan, while the lighter tone and more fantastical setting just brings a better comic-book feeling.

Notice, there's a schism where a lot of people want to say TDK, Logan, Winter Soldier, or some of the X-Men Films as the best - and all of these films make some kind of attempt to ground "comic books," in reality. And while that can work, and most of these are fine films and some are perfect examples of blending it - Logan and WS, I just feel they get away from what makes Comic Books different. And in some cases, just too far away. Classically, CB's are not about making things "more real."

well i like the gritty/real stuff but i can also enjoy GOTG/Hellboy movies too if they're done well

Winter Soldiers probably blended the 2 the best, though. you had fantastical, comic book shite and it was pretty grounded in real concerns/motivations

sometimes the comic booky films need more grit, though. avengers 2 was utterly hamstrung by Disney. if you are basing an entire plot line of 4-5 movies over the effects of your super heroes, then you have to do it up (Logan really did this well). i've only watched avengers 2 once and it has such a stink in my head that i may never watch it a 2nd time
