three times and people are stoked. How the mighty have fallen.

I got blasted in the game thread for saying we were playing scared when we ran the clock out at the end of the first half with two timeouts while down 11 points.

The standards for this program have fallen off a cliff apparently.

Calm down bro

If we win out and go 10-3, I'm pretty sure our fans will "expect" a good season next year. And we get bama at home.

I don’t disagree that they should have been trying to get points there. Bama was selling out run with 9 innthe box and a single high safety who was creeping down pretty hard (and he wasn’t Fitzpatrick)

I was hoping we would PA pass and let chark get deep on a 50/50 ball. Couldn’t have hurt to at least give it a shot when they were going man up on a one man route.

Maybe there is merit to O wanting to simply keep it close and not take chances. It’s a better appearance. The moral victory thing is a farce. No one is happy losing. But there were a lot of positives to take Home in that game. Even the players knew that. You could tell inntjeir post game. We lost a game everyone expected us to lose. Did we have them on he ropes? No. Were there plays there to be made that a better qb could make? ABSOLUTELY. That’s the take away.

That said, of LSU had a passer that could burn a blitz we would shred them. Mettenberger was ripping their blitzes apart back in 12. Could have thrown for 350 that night but les miles gonna les miles

The pussy coaching, no real urgency, playing not to lose and not playing to win absolutely pissed me off. I can’t forgive coaching for bringing such a timid fricking game plan. How may Jet sweeps did we run in the 1st half? It was a broken play after the first 20 times we ran it. To beat Bama you have to do something different, we weren’t expected to win, so why not fricking go all out to get the win? Some trick plays, onside kick, reverses, WHERE DID THE frickING SCREEN PASS GO? If you end up losing pulling out all the stops then so fricking be it, at least you can say you threw everything at them. Also from the beginning of the season we should have given McMillan some wildcat QB packages, he may not be a real accurate passer but he is a threat to pass, and we could have used some of that Saturday night. We need a REAL HEAD COACH!!

At the time, that was the correct strategy. Run the clock out, regroup at halftime, and start fresh with the ball after the half.

In that situation, all of the risk lay on LSU. Had Etling been picked off again, Bama gets at least another 3. If he'd thrown a couple of incomplete passes, now Bama gets the ball at midfield with 1:30 or so left with little to no risk for being aggressive. Worst case for them would've been that LSU intercepts and has the ball again on their own side of the field with very little time left.

It was a conservative strategy, yes, but not necessarily a bad one.

You got blasted because that is a stupid thing to say. Bama would have run the clock out in that situation. Any smart coach would do the same. If you get aggressive in that situation you have a bigger chance of giving up points than of getting points. Bad call unless you have a Drew Brees behind center!

LSU should have taken a shot before the half. Absolutely.. until that mentality changes we will continue to lose to them.

Certainly Ole Miss and A&M didn't play like that against them in their wins.

I think they should have been aggressive at the end of the second and try to score. It seemed they were playing too slow and conservative. playing not to lose.
