re: Jim Harbaugh: How come a 16+ team playoff works for other sports but not Division 1-A CFB?

If the current CFP has shown us anything it is that only two teams belonged there. Look back each year. 2014, the Alabama-Ohio State game was for the championship. Oregon blew out Florida State, and Ohio State blew out Oregon. 2015, neither Oklahoma nor Michigan State belonged, as they were both BTFO. 2016, Ohio State and Washington again were BTFO. This year, we'll probably get the same result. Including 16 teams is just ridiculous.
The problem with this is that without the CFP we get Bama stomping Florida State in 2014 and Ohio State in 2016.

Step 1... Take the power 5, make them the power 4 and put them in their own FBS Division and make all games conference games. Maybe have the season opener and one mid-season weekend be a "conference challenge" weekend.
Step 2... Have your 4 conference title games. Forget divisions. The 2 teams with the best records in the conference get after it in the conference title game.
Step 3... Have the 4 conference champs play each other for the title.
BOOM! 8 team playoff.

Might as well just remove conferences then
Every team for themselves. If you wanna be a top 4 team make a schedule worth being rewarded of a spot

Well we know that will never happen. Conferences are needed for TV deals and revenue sharing or the health of college football.
Without conference TV deal you would NEVER see some schools on TV.

If it's just a P5 only system
Youd share it amongst everyone
Why split it four ways?
my point is, youre going to have an impossible time convincing one of the P5 conferences to give up their branding if you merge down to 4.

Expand to 8 teams, with at least 3 at-large bids using the composite score. In addition; the 5 P5 conference champions are automatic bids IF using those standard errors, their composite rating is not statistically (say 0.05) lower than the team ranked 8th. So I think conference champions should get some preference, but they have to have a composite that reflects that their not significantly worse than the top 8. This was a 8-5 conference champ from a weak division isn’t given an auto bid if the resume doesn’t warrant it.
