Every time I see Etlings numbers next to other QBs I’m amazed.

PFF Numbers to Know: Completing 70.7 percent of his passes with 6 TDs and 656 yards off play-action. Holding the ball 2.5 seconds and less, Etling is connecting on 70 percent of his passes. When he holds it 2.6 seconds or more, it drops to a 44.8 percent completion rate. No. 12 in the SEC in overall grade for starting quarterbacks.

We need the running game to sell the play action and we need to give him quick throws. I think both are achievable with the players we have on offense.

That stat isn’t surprising, Etling looks like a star when he has protection. His numbers take a big drop when he’s under pressure but on the bright side he does scramble for yardage and first downs and he doesn’t let the pressure force him into turnovers. I agree we do need to run the ball to activate our play action but we will also need success on straight dropbacks too. We really need a chain moving pass catcher to step up, Moreau, Dillon or even the backs out of the backfield need to become mid range pass catching threats. I’d love to see Guice get 7-10 targets on swing passes, screens, checkdowns and angle routes. He needs 20+ touches regardless if we are having success running the ball or not.
