The top and bottom plate end up making the studs 7'-9" instead of 8'-0".

Pretty sure the pink is retardant. I forget how the last walls studs I got were marked but I'm thinking it was a little green on the ends.

I get the length of them and why you would want them that way. What I don't get is painting the whole stick pink.

that's how some places sell them. I've seen them at Lowe's like that for years.

The pink is a branding thing, and helps the lumber yard separate the pre-cut studs from the full size 8 footers

Like someone stated. That’s how they are sold at Lowe’s. They’ve got a couple of bundles of studs on the floor next to a couple of bundles of 8’ 2x4s. The studs are $2.50 and 8’ are 3.50. Unless you need 8’ exactly, most people just pick up studs because they are that much cheaper.

Also, on a home build you would waste a lot of time measuring each board when framing if you didn’t have a easy way of differentiating. That’s just the way that lumber supplier does it.

Some of y’all have some really nice box stands but why didn’t y’all build them higher off the ground. Mine are 20+ years old but they’re 10’+ off the ground.
