Dillon runs routes that are usually close to the sideline....so the routes are to the outside...
So explain why he can hit Guice and Dillon in stride if he’s so bad at anticipation....

He's thrown 9 completions to Dillon. Other than the 3rd down throw to Guice early in the Ole Miss game (which was a good throw) I'm not sure what other times he's "hit him in stride." Guice literally has 6 total catches this season. Most of his catches, just like Darrell, travel 5 yards in the air behind the LOS.

If he wasn't bad at anticipating passes and completing the ball to receivers down the field, he would be anticipating passes and completing the ball to receivers down the field. It rarely happens.

I’m guessing you didn’t watch the Ole Miss game and noticed all those picture perfect throws to Guice and D Williams (that were all caught in stride).

Could it be that they are not open?

Down the field...oh you mean like the Auburn game when Chark had over 150 yards...

If I remember correctly, Etling did throw those passes right?

On one of those passes to Chark...the ball got there so quickly...the Auburn DB made a bad play on the ball (for a pick six that never happened)...& Chark raced down the sideline for big yards...

Geez, sometimes I wonder if you people actually watch the game...

Guice had 1 catch vs Ole Miss for 9 yard. It was a good, short throw by Danny to convert a first down. Darrell had 4 catches vs Ole Miss. Not one single catch by Darrel was caught beyond the line of scrimmage. Danny is literally turning straight to Darrel's side and throwing a pass that travels about 5-7 yards in the air on all 4 catches. It's passes that 100% of college quarterbacks should make every single time. There is nothing to anticipate. No defender is near Darrel.

If you can't understand the difference between throwing a swing pass to a running back behind the LOS over and over again as opposed to throwing the ball downfield to a receiver before he comes out of his break, I'll just stop responding to you.

Saying Etling doesn't have a strong arm isn't bashing him. The plays we aren't calling are a testament to that. Intermediate throws across the middle of the field usually have to be thrown on a rope. The ball hanging in the air for an extra second would be the cause of many turnovers and would likely result in our receivers getting blown up. The things he can do he does well and coach Canada has done a good job cslling plays to those strengths. We are lucky to have Etling this year, he gives us a chance to win and develop our younger qb's. He has definitely not been blessed with the arm talent that most of the D1 qb's have, but he lays it all on the line when he takes the field for the Tigers. For that reason he will have my support and respect.

I like him and understand his tools are limited, but I wish he had a quicker release and saw the field better... I guess those are also physical limitations.

Don’t engage him he really might be slow. I think he does watch the games but as hard as it is to believe he actually sucks at watching football lol.

Still waiting for your link to the NFL scouts saying Etling has a strong arm and for you to answer why Etling won't be drafted. Thanks!

It was in the Auburn game...it was way longer than 5 yards....and you are still not addressing the throws to Dillion that were all down the field (intermediate) and thrown in stride....

Address the Dillon throws....so why can Etling hit those throws to Dillon so well....

These beat dog losers don’t have any answers or football knowledge, all they do is throw accusations lies and vitriol. They’re miserable people and they’re not Tiger fans.

Lmfao who pulled your chain? You just jump into a thread to cast an insult? What kind of jerkoff does that? Nobody can talk football with you internet zombies leaching onto everyone trying to grab attention. Someone should invent a repellant for you people.

Agree 100%, would be much better passer with dependable pass protection. He does tend to crumble in the pocket when he feels the heat, has done a great job protecting the ball this year. I rate him a 7 out of 10

Matt Hinton who analyzes QBs describes Etling as "Perfectly Average: Adequate - as being all that LSU's Offense Requires" ETA: IDK, Is that better than most think?

Madking:
quote:

Can't get the deep ball? He has more pass plays over 40 yds than any QB in past 40 yrs.

"Pass Plays over 40 yds" is not an indication that Etling is throwing more long balls than any QB in LSU history. It says nothing about his arm strength.

He has thrown 3 passes in 2 years that went around 55 yds.

Pass Plays are always a combination of the Pass Distance and the Receivers YAC (Yards After Catch). A pass, pitch, or lateral behind the LOS that goes 90 yds for a TD is credited 100% as Passing Yardage to the QB and also 100% as Receiving Yardage.

Chark taking a 10 yd pass 70 yds for an "80 Yard Passing/Receiving TD" is mainly due to Chark being a WR who can break a long play on a short pass.

It shows up in the stats as a Pass Play of 80 Yds. This skews the Passing Yds, Receiving Yds, Passing TDs, and QB Rating.

LSU is 110th in Pass Attempts. Fewer attempts equals less risk.

Etling's SEC play (where there are 4 winless teams): LINK
12th in Yds: 167/gm
12th in Pct: 53%
11th in TDs: 4
Last in Completions and Attempts

Alabama has only lost 7 games since they beat LSU 21-0 in 2011 NC, all to DTQBs, running RPO/Tempo/Spread Offenses.

Over the past 7 yrs LSU has ZERO wins vs ALA because Saban responded to the Offensive revolution and evolved into a DTQB/RPO/Tempo/Spread Offense and LSU did not.

ALA shut out LSU last year with a true FR DTQB, the 1st time since 2011, and they are better this year on both Offense and Defense ranking #1 in both categories: LINK

On a good night, he's above average at best. I'm just afraid at the first glimpse of Bama pressure he will fold like a cheap suit.
