These days I don't even tip based on service. Just a blanket 15-20% regardless of everything else. Encouraging those bad servers 
One thing I read here and that I need to start considering is tipping based on pre-tax, usually just look at the total amount and do a quick mental calculation.

also, I tip credit card only, those motherfrickers can claim their tips as far as I'm concerned.
