I think i would have rathered not made the trade for Cousins and kept Buddy and the pick, tank a little, just a game needed to be in front of Dallas, draft Dennis Smith Jr, let Jrue walk, offer to a guy like Tim Hardaway Jr (4/71). Go find a cheap center, Baynes signed for $4M.

Dennis Smith
Buddy
Hardaway
AD
Baynes

Have Solo to come in for Baynes for small ball lineups. Probably still could have brought in a veteran PG like Collison to help out. Done decent this year and probably be in a good position to make a nice trade next offseason for a veteran player without giving up anyone worth a shite other than the 2018 first round pick. we'd have young players that are good and financial flexibility, which is how Minnesota was able to get guys like Butler and Teague.

AD is still young and could have grown with those guys. We act like we need to win now with AD. He's still 2-3 years from getting into his prime years.

the problem with not getting Cousins (or more expensive 5) is that Davis doesn't want to play center at all, it seems. Baynes at $4M isn't playing more than token minutes....that leaves Davis spending more time at the 5, which appears to be a no go.

and that severely limits how you can build a team around him. to me, he's not a top 5 guy in the league because he seems adamant, at this point, about being a 4. that makes team building much harder (of course it doesnt matter b/c Demps). we saw them play pretty well, given other roster problems, with Davis at 5 from xmas to asb. that's his spot.

still way too early to give up on this year, but if it goes sideways, they should absolutely explore trades for him, aside from the whole killing NBA ball in NO problem of course
