Anyone who has ever lived in a big city knows the escalator rule
The only thing more obnoxious than someone who doesn't are the little escalator zealots who huff and puff because they have to ask someone to move over

I'm guilty of violating this when I visited DC once and had to take the metro. I felt bad about it.

Stand on the right and walk on the left. Stand on the left side of an escalator in NY and you might get stabbed.
