if you will be sitting 8-10ft from it then 40-42" is the "right size" for not being too small
if you will be sitting 12-15ft from it then 50-55" is the "right size" for not being too small
these are the recommended averages to see everything very well, that said, you cant go wrong going big unless you get stupid with it. by that i mean you dont want a 72" screen if you are going to be sitting 8-10ft away or its too big to take in the whole image, but you can get a 50" and be very happy its that big, even though its bigger then the recommended size for that distance.
what happens with too big of a screen is, you cant focus on the whole screen all at once, you end up looking at partial sections of the screen because its just too much there to look at. it also doesnt give you the best view since you are "too close to it" to get the sharpest clearest images.
