CBS earnings to disappoint due to weak NFL ratings

Declining NFL television ratings will lower CBS earnings, according to Credit Suisse.

The firm cut its third-quarter EPS estimates by 5 percent, citing CBS' softer Sunday NFL ratings. The media company reports on Nov. 2.
quote:
"We expect third-quarter network advertising to decline 3 percent (previously +1 percent), driven by soft ratings for both the summer schedule and for the start of the NFL season," wrote Credit Suisse analyst Omar Sheikh. "With only one of the three content licensing deals we expected for the second half announced in third quarter, we also expect content licensing revenue growth to be skewed to the fourth quarter."

The analyst said CBS' Sunday NFL ratings are down 17 percent year over year during the first several weeks of the football season, according to the report. Sheikh released a similar report last week on Twenty-First Century Fox's earnings, which he also expects to disappoint thanks to weaker ratings by the NFL.

How's that bringing politics into the workplace working out for the NFL now? Maybe it's time to brief the networks and NFL that the most important person in their industry are the fans.

Where are the tards now? You know the ones that were laughing and saying that canceling DirecTV Sunday Ticket, boycotting the games, leaving their seats empty, not watching the games, boycotting the sponsors, they said it wouldn’t make a difference whatever
What about now?

I'm going to go out on a limb and assume they are probably flipping back and forth between MNF and MLB playoffs.

This is the first year that there have been MLB playoffs? There were no MLB playoffs last year, when NFL ratings were some 18% higher, or was it my imagination that 2 historical franchises made championship runs?
We also had a highly contested election last year when the ratings were higher.

The 21st century fox downgrade, also by Credit Suisse, specifically mentioned ratings were lower even with soft comps. At what point do people admit it's a problem?

Wait until it’s the Chiefs and and the Vikings in the Super Bowl, the 2 most boring fricking teams with the least about of fans outside of their boring little cities.
No one will watch

I agree. Do what you want and I'll do what I want. Just stop acting like Frank Drebin in front of an exploding fireworks stand. The NFL has a problem.

Lol I bet you do.
I bet the NFL wishes the same thing.
Guess what, it’s not going away.
