A bit out of character.

Only if you go by the sequels. You have to remember that this new film is ignoring all of them, save the original 1978 film. In that particular movie he was very clever and very resourceful.

- He successfully orchestrated a mass breakout of mental patients
- In the resulting confusion, he was able to escape from the mental hospital
- He escaped using a car that he never learned to operate
- He was smart enough to ditch his hospital attire for something less conspicuous
- He broke into a convenience store, stealing a mask and a set of knives
- And he successfully operated under the RADAR for hours, despite the entire Haddonfield PD being on the lookout for him

It stands to reason he knew the likelihood of him getting shot was high. Who knows? Maybe he was able to procure a bulletproof vest in his travels.

Well let's hope they don't use that option in the new movie because it'll go right next to sitting in a prison cell as worst moments in franchise history.

A mask and a jumpsuit is the most inconspicuous thing he could think of?
