The day after.... Did it really happen?

I woke up this morning thinking maybe it was a bad dream. Or a joke since there's no way the US would actually not finish at least 4th in the Hex.
An unspeakable tragedy. Soccer development in the US was set back at least a decade in 90 minutes last night.

The more I think about it the more numb I become. It won't truly hit me until next summer.
I also realized that us failing to qualify for the Olympics the past few cycles should've been red flags for things to come.

It's easy to say that, but it really isn't true. It sucks, and missing out on the World Cup misses an opportunity at a huge boost that we typically count on once every 4 years. But soccer has grown way beyond what it was in 2007 here (I'm talking overall, not just the Men's National team itself).
The sport will continue to grow, don't get discouraged. Show up, show out, and support your local soccer clubs, whatever division they may be, and continue to put eyes on the tv whenever soccer is shown domestically, and it will continue to grow.
While it can't replace a World Cup, when the next Gold Cup rolls around we'll have moved on and be focused on the next cycle of Conferations/FIFA World Cup.
