Oh no - we'll have to be reminded now how Trump "repeatedly mocked the disabled"

They were not offended by Trump's mock. After all, he is the Special Olympics POTUS & is one of them.

They still get a bunch of tax breaks and incentives, although mostly from the state/local level.

Saints for instance: LINK

quote:

Tax-free business operations - Benson's contracts with the state exempt the Saints' and Pelicans' revenue from sales tax, effectively giving the organization a 10 percent discount on overhead worth $11.6 million.

All naming rights revenue - The Mercedes-Benz Superdome deal is reportedly worth $50 million to $60 million over 10 years. The Smoothie King Center contract is reportedly a 10-year deal worth $40 million.

Rent-free venues - Benson doesn't have to pay rent at the Smoothie King Center or the Superdome because both were built with publicly funded debt. That debt is secured through hotel taxes in Orleans and Jefferson parishes that, in 2015, brought in about $58 million. The remainder of the tax revenue not used to fund debt service subsidizes the operational costs of running the venues.

Grand total - Benson's team is valued at $1.5 billion, according to Forbes. About $165 million of that stems from his stadium deal.

Why did you have to correct him? Just let him look stupid, man.

And in our form of gov't the feds have zero to do with that.

I am 100% up for eliminating these cushy deals for owners. But the local municipalities should make that decision not the president.

If they want to throw their money away, I say let them.

The feds actually do have some leverage if they were willing to use it. Local governments still rely on federal funds for a lot of things, especially highways and infrastructure projects. Feds could just tell the local governments that if they can afford to give away hundreds of millions of dollars in stadium/arena construction/renovation and tax breaks for pro sports teams, that those local governments don't need as much federal funding for other projects.

So extortion? Either change that or we stop funds? Yikes.

It might work, but would you like it if the feds did this under a liberal administration. Maybe say - raise your min wage or we cut funding?

You mean like "lower your BAC limit for DUI from .10 to .08 or we'll withhold federal highway funding"? That was pushed through by Bill Clinton's administration.

Already a federal minimum wage in place. Some cities/states just choose to implement their own higher minimum wage

So you like when the feds do this? Cause if the feds do this with stadiusm (they wont), it will set a bad precedent.

If by Savage you mean slightly mentally ill and repetitive then I agree. Seriously, can the guy stop talking about ratings all the time. Those tweets look like they're made to influence a 5th grader.
