Yeah, they should be locked away/disappeared now. No way they could ever risk letting those Infected bastards out into the world.

Well, let's be reasonable. They should stand trial for their crimes. Judged by a jury of their victim's families. And, after being sentenced to death they should have a right to appeal. But none of this 20 year appeal process like in the US. I'd put a cap on appeals at about 20 minutes after initial sentencing. So, they need to plan ahead.
