Nikola Tesla is an example of somebody who's done an amazing job and is being recognized more and more, I notice.

It isn't like he was obscure in his day. He just stopped doing productive work as he went batshit crazy and fell into pigeon world. He was very well regarded in the science community as well as a sort of social celebrity (until he went batshit crazy).
