This is the dumbest thing I have ever heard.
Put the fricking dog in a crate. Trust me he won't give a frick. He's a dog, not a person. I guarantee you, no matter how long he sits in that crate, when you let him out he's happy to see you.

I got it for a pet! I don't duck hunt
Yeah, well, the dog doesn't know that. His instinct is to retrieve game. That's what he wants to do in life. So you should train him to retrieve. Doesn't matter if you duck hunt or not. Retrieving tennis balls in the yard will please him. You need to stimulate him. He's bored as frick and that's why he chews shite up. Run him until he is literally too tired to run anymore. He will stop chewing shite.

This. I have a 7 month GR and he is a bull in a china shop if he doesn't get an hour of some type of running. Get one of those plastic arms that you can chuck a tennis ball with. It is a game changer. 30 min. to an hour playing fetch and he is a totally different dog. Young labs/retrievers need to exert energy every day.
