Man... 15% seems low to me but I can see it. As an alumni I've always felt like the losses hit me harder...I feel at more as a hit to my pride when I see my alma go down as a oppose to someone who sees the team they like go down....

Yep just a team they like. No possible way they could have grown up a fan and been a fan for 20, 30, 40+ years.
I have donated to both the academic and athletic sides of LSU. My dad went to law school there and raised us as LSU and saints fans proud of Louisiana.
I grew up a fan of LSU, but also have an interest in the academic side because that's the flagship of my home state and I want it to be the best it can be.
But I'm not a real fan because I chose to pursue a degree not offered by LSU.
