I never watched the NFL and this is my first year playing fantasy football. So yes, I am an idiot when it comes to this stuff.

This makes you ignorant, not stupid. Big difference. Ask anything you need to ask. You will quicky start to realize who the assholes are and who is genuinely here to help. Expect some good natured trash talk though. That's one of the best things about fantasy.
