My issue in these threads has always been the case where some truck is going 70 in the right lane and let's say there is another truck in front of it. I come up behind him going 75, so I get in the left lane to pass. Some douche like hammertime comes up behind me going 90 and starts tailgating me and expects me to get over as soon as possible (ie between the trucks) or speed up so he isn't inconvenienced.
It's not about convenience, it's about SAFETY. You are causing another vehicle to change course or speed. THIS IS UNSAFE.

The proper thing for YOU to do in this situation is to be aware of your surroundings. If you cannot complete the pass maneuver before the vehicle behind you catches you, then you wait until he passes before getting in front of him.

I agree in my scenario, I am not interested in being convenient to the a-hole who comes up behind me.

frick off. I'm not going to cut the guy off to get over but I'm not going to wait behind the truck because the guy in the left lane 1/4 mile back is driving too fast. He can hit the brakes.

This is correct. If more people would be courteous (even to the assholes) traffic will move a lot smoother. As a person who is on the road for most of the day, that is one of my biggest gripes. The next biggest is a driver who speeds up to cut in traffic to turn right, especially when there are breaks in traffic behind.
