But how does O's buyout protect Alleva? Joe can still be fired by LSU. Were LSU to fire Alleva and hire a new AD, it would be expected (by all in CFB and the media) that the new AD would clean house as it relates to unsuccessful programs within the Athletic Department. Are you saying that because the buyout is so big that LSU would have a hard time finding a new AD who would want to deal with the financial mess that is LSU football, thus the school makes no move and instead waits out the first year or two of O's reign before cutting ties with both? Not trying to start a fight...I'm kind of like Chicken, just trying to explain such an incomprehensible move by a sitting AD.

Alleva's gambling that LSU won't fire him over the Orgeron hiring without firing Orgeron too. The big buyout makes doing so that much more difficult.
In other words, he's hedging his bets. It's the only explanation that makes any sense.
