re: My theory on what's happening in LSU Athletics

I get that - but the point is we're not going to win championships while Saban is coaching Bama, which is why they didn't go after a top tier head coach.
So you are suggesting that Alleva is so scared of Saban, that he just said "frick it" and is intentionally tanking the football program? Really???
Alleva is a bad AD, sure, but your idea makes absolutely zero sense on any level.
You do know a school can have championship level teams in multiple sports, right? You don't ahve to choose basketball OR football.
Hell, just fairly recenlty Florida won titles in both sports in the same year. FFS, 2007 LSU won the BCS and the CWS.
So tell me again, why does Alleva have to choose one or the other?

Alleva, being former Duke AD, convinces F.King that LSU can compete at a high level in basketball, given its rich history and his experience.
So are you saying when Alleva hired Trent Johnson and Johnny Jones he was unware of the "rich history" or that way back then his plan was to suppress the basketball success to assure that LSU remained "football school".. but now he has flipped the script ? ...genius ... I would hate for him to have a plan to be both a basketball and football school at the same time, that worked terribly with Meyer and Donovan at UF a few years back

I understand you guys are upset, but no need to be ugly in your responses. I'm merely suggesting a theory. Whether it's true or not, I don't know.
And I never suggested LSU basketball revenue would replace football revenue. My suggestion is that the priority - in terms of winning (realistically) is now with basketball. Football is in cruise control (for now).
I think Alleva thinks he can continue to bring in revenue regardless of whether we are winning championships or we become a middle of a pack SEC team.
Most of you disagree with that, and I get why.

Holy shite!!!!!
You call what we've seen the last few weeks "cruise control"?????
It's a sinking ship.

We are a far cry from middle of the pack SEC team right now.

We are becoming a basketball school again, where football is second or third wheel
Do you realize how much $$ football brings into our university? Nevermind, you probably don't.

We have no intentions of winning championships in football while Saban is coaching Bama.
Tell that to Urban Meyer and Dabo. Alabama is the Lebron James of the CFP. They make it, but don't always win it....which means there is opportunities for others to win it all.

21-0 broke us.
Agree 100%. Been downhill since.

It's widely published on the internet, so it's no secret. Between 60-70 million in revenue at least.

Exactly my point brah. LSU Athletics isn't going to make the move to be a "basketball school" and risk losing that revenue stream. We are profitable BECAUSE of football.
Basketball and Baseball are the only two other sports who make a profit. All the rest lose money.

So the one sport that generates the most money and funds the athletic department and part of the university is going to become second or third wheel? The plan is to sacrifice tens of millions of dollars to make a little bit more with basketball
First off, thank you for the intelligent response. It's refreshing.
Here's where I think we differ in opinion. If you only read the rant, you would think LSU is going to lose half of their current revenue each year. I don't even think it's going to be tens of millions.
Yes, the stands are going to be empty for a few weeks if we keep losing. But you know what happens then? A new wave of fans come in and fill the seats. LSU will always have a packed house, I don't care if we're middle of the pack, or top of the SEC.
I sincerely think Alleva sees maybe a 3-5 million loss in revenue WORSE CASE here, possibly even a break even from where we have been for the past 4-5 years. We haven't been very good since 2011, and are we really seeing a huge dropoff in revenue?
I think he sees this and is taking advantage of our loyal fanbase. Now he's making his move in the basketball space, trying to make us competitive again.

I completely understand that, and it seems the overwhelming response here thinks I suggested that basketball revenue would REPLACE football revenue. That's not what I'm saying. It clearly won't.
BUT - if you look at this from a business standpoint...have we been very good since 2011? No, not at all. We lose to Bama every year. Have our revenue numbers stayed about the same? Yes.
So why go after a top tier coach, when we can be middle of the pack, bring in the same cash, and start putting efforts to make our basketball program one of the elite ones in an already weak conference? As opposed to trying to compete in a conference where Bama will win every year?

This is where you are wrong. In the 90's the house wasn't always packed and there were a lot fewer seats.
Now combine that with overpriced tickets, overpriced parking, overpriced concessions and a bad product on the field and watch how few people show up.
You're theory is just bad. It's OK to admit it, but don't keep trying to defend it.

Strange that they keep adding to Tiger Stadium.

This isn't the 90's (yet)
How good have we been since 2011?
It seems to me that Tiger Stadium is filling up, even when we fail to win the conference every year (or even come close)

No, not at all. We lose to Bama every year
It wasn't all that long ago that we beat them 5 or 6 straight times. And even more recently we beat them as often as they beat us. Then 21-0 happened.
Get over it. Bama is not invincible (though O will probably never beat them).
Your whole theory is based on the idea that Alleva doesn't even want to attempt to compete with Bama in football. I don't but it.

I think your irrational fear of Bama football may require some medication.

You do realize we hired Coach O, right???

Start of the game versus end of the game doesn't mean anything.
People are still buying tickets.
Also, it's Troy.

Just because Alleva made a teribble hire doesn't mean he has some grand scheme to tank the football program on the slim hope that he can build a championship level basketball program.
There is no grand plan. You are just tying irrationally to rationalize a terrible decision by Alleva to hire O.

I realize I've been posting this all morning, and I'm surprised there isn't more of it. I am also certain that it was discussed in much more depth two weeks ago when this first came out.
You don't try to become a "basketball school" when your football program/athletic department is worth $910,000,000.00
This isn't Duke with high tuition, small student body, and alumni base not interested in football. This is the FIFTH LARGEST "franchise" in all of college sports.
You don't wait for Nick Saban to leave Alabama, who is 4th largest. Even the mighty Saban at Alabama can be beaten. You don't roll over and emphasize basketball if your the FIFTH LARGEST entity worth nearly a BILLION dollars.
You don't lose to Troy or any Sun Belt school, in your own stadium, supposedly one of the most intimidating venues in all of American sports, either.
