Arnsparger came in after Stovall and had 3 good years before leaving to become the AD at Florida. The thought was to hire his replacement from his staff at LSU to keep what Arnsparger had done going. That was Mike Archer, who I think was the youngest HC in the country when he was hired. Archer did keep the ship rolling for his first couple of years, but the recruiting tailed off significantly...eventually leading to his firing. LSU then hired Curley Hallman after his success at USM with Brett Favre. The recruiting and coaching hit rock bottom.
No. I became a season ticket holder in the late 80's early 90's. From about 1990 - 1994 it was EASY to get a ticket to an LSU game and you couldn't give away tickets if you had extra. If it was a day game the stadium was about 2/3rds full.
To put in in context, the best season during that time was 1993. LSU had shockingly beat #3 Alabama (at Bama). Going into the final game against Arkansas LSU was 5-5 and playing for a spot in the "Carquest Bowl". For the first time in a few years fans were somewhat excited...for the chance at the "Carquest Bowl!" Arkansas ended that hope quickly in a blowout of LSU.
