And to answer your question, the chances are very good since the chance of making 200 dollars or so over a weekend of golf will make plenty of golfers throw away their dignity.
It's why I hate tournaments in general. Especially member guests where there's not many people in your club who may know how legit the guys handicap is.

I chose not to enter the "players pool" for an additional
$200.
The pro asked me why? I said, "I don't gamble if
I can't figure out who is going to win."
I know people can vary their game, but it is statistically improbable to beat your handicap in 5 straight 9 hole matches. I beat mine once, was over by 1 twice and played poorly twice.
My regular group does not have any liars. Handicaps range from 4 index to 20 index. It's hard enough on the single digit guys when people are truthful. We also switch partners every 6 holes.
