I have edited the title to reflect my intent.
While I disagree with their opinions, and the alleged "bases" for them, I am not making a judgment call on their opinion. I am making a judgment call as to how they have expressed it.
Maybe the thread will get back on track now.

I'd have phrased it "Let's take a step back from the rancor arising from mixing politics with sport" 
Putting it how you did invites a thread derail

here's the thing, as long as the protest is peaceful you don't get to tell someone else what the appropriate method or time for them to protest is.
