These billionaires are more afraid of the players than their own customers? Well if they are that stupid then they deserve to lose their business.

I don't think it is quite that simple. Teams with the best players are more profitable. In order to make the most money you gotta have good fans which requires having good players too.
This whole charade (if that is what it is), gave the owners the opportunity to publicly side with players to keep them happy while giving the fans the chance to show the players it is not a good idea.

Well, statistically speaking, the players are more likely to kill the owners than some random person in the crowd.
