Question 2: Why would the players experience a paycut? Aren't their salaries locked in by contract?

It will go down. I doubt it will be next year but it will happen and will have more to do with the networks over paying for broadcast rights than actions of players. The media is changing because of cord cutting and internet, that is what will cause it.
