Keep talking tv. They are talking $$$$

You do realize how they make their money right? It's all based on ad revenue. When broadcasters enter into a deal with the NFL both sides are negotiating based on eyesballs. If ratings are way up the NFL has the leverage to say we want x amount of money because projected growth in viewership is worth that much. However, if you've lost 20% of your viewers, broadcasters can't increase their their ad revenues and there for are unwilling to pay the NFL the amount they want for the broadcasting rights...Now take it a step further. The players lose money due in part to the collective bargaining agreement. They share in the revenue of the NFL which includes broadcasting contracts. If the NFL can't command the maximum from broadcasters because viewership is in the toilet, then the players are forced to share the smaller pie. That is why people like Rothlesberger suddenly had some regret the day after. They realize that if viewership tanks because of this stupidity, then the ones who will feel it most are the players. Broadcasters will still make their money, owners will still be billionaires but the guy who might get 30 million in today's market might only command 20 million if viewership goes in the shitter.
