That is not a role for the President. He swore an oath to uphold the Constitution, not the anthem or the flag. The first amendment gives everyone with the right to peacefully protest. The highest law enforcement official should not be calling them vulgar names or suggesting actions by their employers.

The President is using his political power to lean on private employers and get them to act a certain way towards their employees? good to see Trump is upholding long held tenets of conservatism

Well that's your position regarding what he should say and you're certainly entitled to that, we differ in that regard but he's not legally prohibited from saying what he said and I'd like to point out that "should" is an incredibly different term than "shall" regarding what a POTUS does.
